History of Nail Polish

Nail polish originated in Ancient China in 3200 BC. The ancient Chinese immersed their hands in beeswax, egg whites, and gum Arabic and dyed them with orchids, roses, and gelatine.

During the Zhou Dynasty, women of the royal house liked metallic colors, such as gold and silver. Around the same time, Egyptians made nail polishes that looked like the Egyptian kind, which used the color strawberry and Heena.

According to legend, in high societies, women or Cleopatra wore dark red polish while lower classes women wore lighter colors. In 1800, recipes were released on how to make your own nail polish and almond-shaped nails.

The sector of Nail Polish experienced a lot of innovation in the early 1900s.

The first emery board was introduced in 1910 along with many other tools, such as metal clippers, and it was also at that time that Technicolor made nail polish more popular.

In 1932 Charles and Joseph Revson established Revlon. Even though Revlon is known today for many cosmetic products, its first product was nail polish. Over the years, its long wear and opaqueness made it one of the most popular nail polishes. A bottle of nail polish could be purchased for 35 cents during this time.

During the late 1930s, a dentist by the name of Maxwell Lappe created the first fake (artificial nails) to help combat nail-biting. Rather than just a single color, we now have a whole world of NAIL ART at our fingertips. Crazy colors and designs are not only dominating the runway but also in the homes of millions.

What is Nail Polish and How it is made?

The word nail polish is full of different names such as nail paint, nail enamel, and nail varnish. Nail polish is a type of liquid substance that is applied to the person’s fingernails or toenails to make them appear beautiful and protect them from heat. Usually, nail polish is made by dissolving nitrocellulose in butyl acetate or ethyl acetate. Some nail polishes also contain minerals and vitamins, but they do not contain any hard chemicals. Hence, they nourish and strengthen the nails and give them unique color and texture.
